Vipassana Meditation
Vipassana meditation was started by the late Guruji Sri Satyanarayana Goenkaji, India, approximately. 1960. They had learned Vipassana from their Guruji, late Sri Saiyaji Uba Khin from Sri Lanka (Verma). He was also a big government administrator in Sri Lanka.
He had made a meditation room in his office and started practicing Vipassana with his pupil. There is a big story behind this meeting with Sri Goenka ji and Sri Uba Khin ji. Guruji Goenka ji was a big businessman in Sri Lanka. His family went to Sri Lanka very early for business purposes and has been living there for a long time.
Our Guruji Goenka ji got a serious disease of migraine. So, he had consulted many more doctors across the country. But he has no cure, and he has to take Morphia Injection regularly. And the doctor had clearly understood him, this injection is dangerous for your health. Then someone advised Goenka ji to contact Sri Uba Khin ji. Then he had started practicing Vipassana with Guruji Uba Khin, and after some time, his disease would disappear.
Then guruji Uba Khin had said to guruji Goenka ji that Vipassana meditation is made by Indian origin, and in a very crucial period, in the Verma Indian government had given lots of benefits to the Sri Lankan government. So, it's time that you should return the technique of this meditation to the Indian public and compensate the Indian debt to the Sri Lankan government, because the Indian people are forgetting this technique, so that he had come to India and spread this.
